Priorities
Aug. 27th, 2002 09:00 amWe got us a terrorist, maw!
I know you've all heard about Ariel Sharon's aborted campaign erm no particular reason trip to Jeb Bush's Florida the day before the Florida Democratic gubernatorial primary? Many public appearances had been planned. Any influence this may have had on jewish voters who were given a choice between being portrayed in the national press as senile, stupid, or enthusiastic Buchanan voters was, of course, incidental, as evidenced by the fact that Sharon was also planning to travel to California, a notorious Republican gubernatorial stronghold.
Well, git out the cold duck anyway, maw, 'cause we caught us a terrorist. A really truly terrorist, with maps and bombs and written plans to destroy innocent Americans at worship and enough bombs to blow up thousands of homes. No, not any of the arabs and US citizens we rounded up in the wake of 9/11 who are still being held without constitutional protections almost a year later. Although, pace Mr. Ashcroft, the muslims are involved.
As victims.
Dr. Robert J. Goldstein, 37, was charged with possession of a non-registered destructive device and attempting to use an explosive to damage and destroy Islamic centers.
During a search of his Seminole home, deputies found a typed list of approximately 50 Islamic worship centers in the Tampa/St. Petersburg area and elsewhere in the state.
They also found detailed plans for destroying an Islamic education center with the use of bombs. The location of the Islamic education center targeted was not disclosed.
"It looks like this guy was going to target some Islamic mosques," Pinellas County Sheriff's Detective Cal Dennie said. "He had a list of what he wanted to target and the directions on how to get there."
Well, not precisely what the gummint was focusing on, but Jeb has stepped up to the plate and is going to have a meeting with the first group of american citizens who have been discovered to be the targets of a very serious attempt at domestic terrorism in the new world of The War on Terrorism.
Well, not precisely a meeting. More like a conference call.
Actually, exactly like a conference call.
Well, technically it is going to be a conference call.
Bush said Monday he will hold a conference call with the state's Arab and Muslim leaders to inform them of steps by law enforcement to protect their places of worship. He also said he would speak with the Florida Department of Law Enforcement about what steps need to be taken.
This after a plea from local muslim leaders to become personally involved.
That there Bush family, they just got priorities out the yinyang.
update: He done already did it
TALLAHASSEE, Fla. (AP) -- Gov. Jeb Bush promised Muslim leaders a thorough safety check of mosques and schools around the state following the arrest of a doctor accused of plotting to blow up Islamic buildings.
Bush made the promise during a conference call Monday. Officers planned to visit about 200 mosques and schools Tuesday to assess security and any potential threats, said Florida Department of Law Enforcement Commissioner Tim Moore.
We got that? We can teargas children because somewhere in a crowd there is taunting going on, but in the face of a documented terrorist threat fifty separate religious organizations can wait a few days for the police to check if any of their thousands of members might be in danger.
