the ghost of christmas god I hope not
Dec. 27th, 2002 06:25 pmI get a ride from NYC Transit paratransit, because of the foot thing, and tonight there was this little man in the van when I got on. He wanted to talk really badly. He said he was in his mid-eighties.
I talked him through How to use your computer that you don't understand and Why feeling rotten isn't the same as being depressed and How seasonal affect disorder can affect your mood and Why volunteering to teach reading to kids, especially young kids, will make you feel important and valuable and As If You Matter and Why I get to use paratransit when I'm not a veteran and How ultrasound isn't so bad, I used to have them when I was pregnant and There's always something good on Turner Classic Movies and Which classic movie stars are still alive and The contract system in pre-1950s Hollywood and The dirt on Ruby Keeler and Al Jolson and Why if I had to choose a movie star for my daughter to be like it would probably be Katherine Hepburn except for the long-term affair with the married abusive blackout drunk thing and Why I'm not planning to have another kid and Why kids today are so good at computers
(let me interject at this point that I didn't introduce any of these subjects)
and The physiological value of full-spectrum lightbulbs.
He seemed much cheerfuller when he got off the van.
He had lost control of his bowels at some point.
The driver carried my stuff to the door. They usually don't do that.
I give myself a week before this has worn off enough that I don't feel really creepy about feeling sorry for myself.
