Howard Keel was cool!

But even cooler is the end of the movie "Show Boat" when Ava Gardner steps out of the shadows. It chokes me up just thinking about it.

I love "Show Boat"! "I'm tired of living and scared of dying" pretty much sums it up for many people. "Fish gotta swim, a bird's gotta fly, I gotta love one man til I die. Can't help lovin' dat man of mine." Classic! And true. The whole things about what's her name's black blood is so stupid, but it showed and shows a lot of people how stupid it all is, so it's a message musical, too (if I'm thinking of the right thing).

You'll have to excuse me, J, I've just declared a culture war on the forces of ignorance, meanness, and soulnessness. Should be fun!
