rapidly losing patience
Nov. 18th, 2004 05:01 amthe next time anyone is tempted to give McCain the benefit of the doubt when he loudly champions some noble googoo cause he's worked to hobble for the good of his party, kindly keep this, from Robert Novak, in mind
because, see, the CIA serves the President, not the country, and if the President chooses to lie to the country about the information he received from the CIA, it is not the business of the CIA to correct the record, even if the President is using his lies about the information he received from the CIA as an excuse to make the CIA the fall guys for the trouble he got the country into by ignoring the information he got from the CIA.
Because after all, they set up a separate intelligence operation (team B2, I guess) in the White House to counter the lack of support for their rush to war from the CIA because the intelligence they got from the CIA was so overwhelmingly supportive of their rush to war.
So: we have his wife, his daughter, his experiences as a prisoner of war, the military, veterans, the environment, campaign finance, the nominal independence of any area of government from the direct control of the White House - perhaps someone can tease out for me something that John McCain isn't willing to sell out in order to work from within.
Because at this point, it seems to me that we're just haggling over price.
Moreover, McCain told me this week, "with CIA leaks intended to harm the re-election campaign of the president of the United States, it is not only dysfunctional but a rogue organization."
