that other shrugged woman no kidding interviews John Bolton.

just... wow

This one's for Scott
Pamela: No, I believe that good will prevail. And last thing I wanted to ask you. You know, last time we spoke I had asked you, you know, what your favorite book was, who were you most influenced by, and you of course gave me the old Ayn Rand, but you said John Locke [I meant Burke, argh- Atlas], and I started reading some of Locke, and I wanted to just ask you a question, if you related to him on a personal level, because he was very much his own man, a loner, beaten by the leftoids of his day, seriously, an iconoclast, and I was just wondering, if ti was purely his writing and his thinking, or if you had identified with him. This is just a personal question, I was curious.

Bolton: Well, like Edmund Burke, who I also follow quite a bit...

Wait, wait, wait, Locke was "beaten" by the Left "of his day"? Are we talking about "social contract" and "right to rebellion" Locke? And I don't know how much of a "loner" Locke was, given that whole Enlightenment thing.

Can these people at least put a smidgen of effort into pretending they're not badly-read imbeciles?

No, it's because we don't understand the deep nuances of their language.

'Leftoids' are all insane collectivists and have been since the beginning of human civilization, so they would so obviously be against Locke. This despite that the 'right' of that time would include monarchists and 'the Great Chain of Being' believers.

Any good philosopher would have been a loner, like Ayn Rand and her band of followers.

It's kind of cute how you two assume she's read either.

See, that was my thought. But I thought I might be a cynical beast. I know you not to be one, so. HEEEEE.

It's a puzzlement. (http://jameswolcott.com/archives/2005/12/nips_ahoy.php)

I'm glad that the phrase "Nips" has been reclaimed from its former, outcast status as a racial epithet.

I'd be amazed if most people even realize it ever was one.

No perspective, the kids these days ..... No one got it when I hung up a "No Irish Need Apply" sign at my college's library desk, either.

(I'm Irish, so it's ok)

My grandma used to see those growing up, back when Alphabet City was a big german/irish neighborhood.

"Let me tell you something, my kraut-mick friend, no job for you!"

OK, that's enough racial/ethnic talk out of me for one morning.

That kind of stuff is just crazy, really. Every ethnic group seems to forget that they were, at one time, oppressed. Gaining power and assimilating, unfortunately, tends to blend people into the "Us" group, rather than the "Them".

That is one articulate woman there. I can see why she got the interviewing gig.

If you think that's bad, check out her video blogging over at YouTube. Just make sure you haven't eaten anything two hours prior.

You'd think by now a friend would've tapped her on the shoulder and said, "Pammie, you're not very good at this", but she doesn't strike me as a person that listens to reason.
