You may or may not have heard about the troubles Mr. Lamont's other Republican challenger is having
Questions about Schlesinger’s gambling habits surfaced last week, when he admitted that he had obtained a "Wampum Card" from Foxwoods Resort Casino under the assumed name of Alan Gold shortly after the casino opened in 1992.

...

Schlesinger on Thursday called himself a "recreational" gambler and vowed he would not be driven from the Senate race.

"I have never done anything illegal. I did absolutely nothing wrong," Schlesinger said. "I’m not getting out of this race because of the fact I had a couple of civil lawsuits filed against me 15 years ago."

When asked about his gambling debts Thursday, Schlesinger initially said he had "no recollection" of ever owing any Atlantic City casinos money and denied he had been sued by the casinos.

When confronted with the case numbers of the lawsuits, Schlesinger said he remembered settling some debts with two casinos but claimed he never was served any legal papers or had to go to court in Atlantic City.

"I vaguely remember there was some controversy surrounding what I owed the two casinos and I stopped payment on the checks, but they were both settled without ever going to court," Schlesinger said.

...

When asked why he wouldn’t remember two five-figure settlements, Schlesinger said it’s because that’s "not that much money to me."

the recreational gambler thing isn't working out for him either
Former state Representative Alan Schlesinger is being dogged by gambling rumors, and Bradley Beecher, former commanding officer of the state police’s casino licensing and operations unit, says he received a call from Schlesinger on Tuesday, July 11th seeking information on who was checking out his gambling habits. Beecher is now a consultant on casino security and law enforcement. He’s also a critic of Connecticut gaming policies.

Beecher, who was familiar with Schlesinger, says the Republican nominee told him he is, in gambling parlance, a card counter who has been thrown out of the Mohegan Sun casino. Schlesinger told Beecher and others he plays under an assumed name, Alan Gold. Beecher shared details of his startling conversation with Schlesinger in an email to Republican Governor M. Jodi Rell and others around the state.

Republican state chairman George Gallo has conferred with Schlesinger and is concerned about the implications of the brewing gambling scandal. Schlesinger confirmed to Gallo that he gambled under the name Alan Gold because he wanted to accrue points on his “Wampum card” at the Foxwoods casino operated by the Mahantucket Pequots.

According to Gallo, who sounds like he is ready to force Schlesinger from the ticket and find a replacement, “Our mistake is that we only vetted candidates using their real names, not aliases.”

Old news, and not what makes me happy.

What makes me happy is this: according to the AP, Mr Schlesinger is on his way to Washington.

To see if he can pick up support from his fellow Republican fiscal conservatives.

Takes one to know one, I always say.

What can I say? He obviously took William Bennet's lesson from the Book of Virtues.
