Imus, on Rev. Sharpton's show, responding to the Editor in Chief of Ebony/Jet, who objected to Imus' suggestion that he was paying more attention to sickle cell anemia than the black press. Bryan Monroe said that his magazine had been discussing the issue for decades, back when Imus "was doing used car ads"
"Don't talk about me doing used car commercials. I'll bet you I've slept in a house with more black children who were not related to me than you have. Do not get into my face about this…why don't you show up here in person."
Leaving aside the insanity of saying such a thing at all, compounded by the insanity of saying it when he's in the hole he's in, whatever could have possessed him to say it to the President of the NABJ?

I can make my own schedule and I'm often up to see his 3AM(PST) simulcast on MSNBC. I've seen him chase Contessa Brewer off his show with sexist remarks. He's a racist and encourages the rest of his crew into misogyny. I'd have liked to seen him fired a long time ago.

He's just full of smart responses. *rolls eyes*

I'm wondering why it took this long to confront this man about the things he says. This isn't the first time he's made such deplorable remarks, but it seems like it's the first time that it's caused some sensationalism. This man should've been out of a job way before now.

I think perhaps a clue might be found in the fact that absolutely none of the responses - including the one from the NABJ and the one from Gwen Ifill - have mentioned Tom Oliphant, Tim Russert or Howard Fineman.

It's like Martin Scorcese and Robert DeNiro standing behind Elia Kazan at the Oscars. Lots of people have a serious problem with Elia Kazan. They also want to work with Martin Scorcese and Robert DeNiro some day.

Imus gets a pass because it's not about the audience. It's about the people who've decided that they have a right to decide what the audience sees.
