but y'all printed it, didn't you?
Aug. 7th, 2003 01:51 pmPresident Bush stood at the side of Secretary of State Colin L. Powell today and proclaimed that "this guy has done a fabulous job," but he left open the question of whether Mr. Powell would serve in a second Bush administration.
"We'll deal with it at the right time," Mr. Bush said, as he and Mr. Powell stood outside the Coffee Station, Crawford's combination restaurant and gas station, in a six-minute question-and-answer session with reporters. It was the first time the two had appeared in public together since The Washington Post reported on Monday that Mr. Powell and his deputy, Richard L. Armitage, would not serve a second term. The White House vehemently denied the article's assertions, and Mr. Bush's show of support for Mr. Powell today appeared intended to put the assertions to rest.
But the president also equivocated about the future of Mr. Powell, who had been widely expected to serve only four years. "First things first, and that is, we've got a year-and-a-while during my first term to make the world a more peaceful place," Mr. Bush said, when asked directly if Mr. Powell would serve again...
Slow summer, boys?
