ok, so maybe it's shallow day.
Aug. 29th, 2003 10:58 amA woman who the police said went on a rampage at her wedding reception pleaded guilty today to a reduced charge of creating a public disturbance and was fined $90.
The woman, Adrienne T. Samen, 18, of North Haven, was charged with criminal mischief and breach of the peace on Aug. 16 after the police responded to her wedding reception at the Mill on the River restaurant in South Windsor.
Ms. Samen became enraged after restaurant workers closed the bar at the party, officials said. She began throwing things, including wedding cake and gifts, the police said.
Ms. Samen left the restaurant, and the police found her walking down the road in her wedding gown.
While being taken into custody, the police said, she kicked the door and window of a police cruiser and tried to bite an officer.
"My behavior was very disgraceful," Ms. Samen told Judge Patricia Swords in State Superior Court today. Besides the fine, Ms. Samen was ordered to pay for any damage to the restaurant.
"This behavior does not bode well for the well-being of your marriage," Judge Swords said.
The groom, David Samen, a 21-year-old Marine reservist, accompanied his wife to court. He came home a little over a month ago after serving in Iraq for six months, said Evelyn Vitalie, his mother.
The couple eloped before he left but wanted a bigger ceremony once he had come home.
"I'm happy," Ms. Vitalie said. "When he married her, I finally had a daughter."
The couple honeymooned at Dollywood, Dolly Parton's amusement park in Tennessee. But Ms. Samen said they had cut short the trip after being hounded by reporters.
Ms. Samen said she would tell her side of the story during an appearance on Sharon Osbourne's talk show, which is to begin in September.
"I'm sorry to certain people, like my family and some of the police officers," Ms. Samen said.
I love this story. Starting from the part where they apparently didn't card the bride at the reception, up to the part where Lolita apparently doesn't feel any particular sense of remorse for the restaurant she trashed, and particularly the judge's talk show audition during sentencing (watch out, Judge Judy).
The groom's mother, on the other hand, scares me a lot.
