Love is patient, love is kind. It does not envy, it does not boast, it is not proud. It is not rude, it is not self-seeking, it is not easily angered, it keeps no record of wrongs. Love does not delight in evil but rejoices with the truth. It always protects, always trusts, always hopes, always perseveres.

A lot like my grandmother.

Rest in peace, nonni.

At present, we see indistinctly, as in a mirror, but then face to face. At present we know partially; then we shall know fully, as we are fully known.
So faith, hope and love remain, these three;
but the greatest of these is love.

I'm sorry for your loss.

1904 - 2003.
To live for almost a century and know who you are, who your family is, and your place in the world.
A good death.
She sits at a deity's right hand.

Deepest condolences

I adored my grandma, so I understand your loss keenly. While you grieve, remember to also be thankful that you had her in your life for so long -- that's a great gift.

. . . she probably would have dragged herself to her feet and pitched in. We could have probably kept her going to her 100th birthday by submitting orders for gnocchi each evening.

But dang, she deserved and earned some rest and a quiet and dignified end, and she got it.

RIP!

so, so true, and my first giggle of the day.

I honestly think she pulled herself back from this last crisis so we'd have time to go say goodbye.

And she ate the polenta I made her.
From: (Anonymous)
Ah, now that's an idea: Not being up to making gnocchi, I should mix up a batch of polenta for tonight.

I need to strengthen my wrists, and being spattered with flecks of boiling hot corn meal for twenty minutes will be penance for not being able to make it back East for the arrangements.

Not having had enough warning (a week?) I won't be able to have any salted codfish soaked for the occasion, but sardines in hot sauce aren't a terrible substitute as they sound.

do yourself a favor and get the organic kind in the tube and nuke it.

With cheese, even. Yum.

Oh, and because nonni isn't here to say it:

I know you're busy. It was good to see you when you came.

Sweetie, I am so very sorry for your loss. You know, I was in the library on Saturday and saw a cookbook called In Nonni's Kitchen or something like that, and I immediately thought of y'all.
