Remember back yesterday when we tossed the Sharon plan overboard and went with the roadmap??

Well, I xposted over at The American Street, and I had to update over there twice this morning as the story, erm, evolved.

You are simply not going to believe this.

I promise.

Bonus: We may have a "mistakes were made" for the new millennium: this, from Our Fearless Leader's interview with an egyptian newspaper, about the future of the "roadmap"
"I readily concede the date has slipped some, primarily because violence sprung up. "

Okay so let me get try to recount:

-Clinton's incrementalism peace process starting with OSLO was a debacle because each increment is an excuse for both party to stop the process.

-So enter Bush. He said in the beginning of his administration, we are not going to deal with the middle east issue, let them be. Clinton just meddle too much.

-The entire thing blows up. Bush panicked and decide it is a good idea to meddle after all.

-He ditch everything Clinton has done and proposed 'the Road map'. The basic idea of this plan is a written in stone road marks where no party can renege, hence fixing the problem of incrimentalism. It also give the Palestinian clear stated goal of statehood in 2005 for the first time.

-It doesn't work, the devil is in the detail. Total collapse of trust on both sides after repeated breach by both sides. Road map is dead, after Israel start launching rockets from helicopters, and Hamas declared the roadmap is dead.

-After months of denying the roadmap is dead, enter Bush and Sharon saying, okay we have a new plan. It's called 'unilateral pull out'. Everybody knows unilateral pull out officially kills the roadmap.

-The unilateral pull out dies after Likud votes against it.

-Bush credibility totally collapses in the eyes of Arabs. He tries to fix this now.

-.....voila ... Bush abandoned Sharon's unilateral pull out and go back to 'road map' except he ditches the promise of Palestinian stateshood by 2005. Which is THE EXACT POINT of roadmap, giving the Palestinian a clear political goal.

I am not sure if Bush is insane or just think the Arabs are too stupid to notice he can't keep his words.

...this is amazing. We have a screwball in the Whitehouse.

-I know this reveals me as a total geek, but the episode with the twins that had smoke coming out of their ears when they got all confused was I, Mudd, not Mudd's Women.

Sheesh, I'm ashamed to know that.
