I'm a little confused by something in the McGreevey case
WABC-TV of New York reported that McGreevey was expecting a lawsuit by a former aide accusing him of sexual harassment. The station identified the former aide as Golan Cipel, who resigned as McGreevey’s security adviser in 2002 after months of questioning about his credentials and job qualifications.

A former Israeli sailor and a published poet, Cipel, 33, was criticized because he did not have a security clearance or law enforcement background. He had worked in television news and public relations.

So McGreevey gave a high-profile job to someone who had no obvious qualifications for it and then he asked him for sex?

Sort of leaves you wondering how negotiable this lawsuit was.

More confusion

NJ: Governor Admits he's "Gay American"; Resigns Ahead of Lawsuit

News is breaking everywhere that Governor James McGreevey is resigning "because he had a gay affair." But MSNBC is reporting that a sexual harassment lawsuit is being filed today by his former homeland security adviser, Golan Cipel.

Of course, the story's not that simple. Cipel resigned after allegations that he wasn't qualified for the job, despite his experience as a member of the Israeli Defense Forces.

It gets more complicated. Prior to the joining the McGreevy administration, Cipel had worked for Charles Kushner, a real estate mogul and campaign fundraiser who was arrested last month on charges of tax fraud and illegal campaign contributions.

Did McGreevey resign because he's gay? Or is that just a convenient, even sympathetic (though likely true) cover story?

I'm guessing that he was hired because of his orientation.

my suspicions are either McGreevey was pressured to hire Cipel because they were having an affair, and Cipel or the fundraiser he worked for (I forget his name) threatened to expose McGreevey if he didn't (not all that much of a stretch, the fundraiser tried to set up his own brother-in-law to pressure him into changing his testimony with pictures of the brother in law with a prostitute), or McGreevey and Cipel had an affair and Cipel became too much of a liability and was fired and has retaliated by filing the harrassment suit.
